perhaps 5 minutes sleep - a "Cat nap." I caught [[insertion]] this [[?]] [[/insertion]] while riding with all hands on the Kum-mi-tu (on the glassy ice of Frobisher Bay (on northern [[insertion]] [[of]] [[/insertion]] "Country of Warwick's Sound" of Frobisher), going at storm-wind-speed.
I will begin "at the beginning" - I should say perhaps [[underlined]] [[/insertion]] at the [[/insertion]] ending [[/underlined]] - for my journal of yesterday ended IX P.M. - near [[underlined]] end [[/underlined]] of 27th "Civil Time". The word brought down by me at X PM of last night that every thing all [[strikethrough]] AM all [[/strikethrough]] ready for the start.
Adjusting my "baby" - the Chronometer, a "Five Pounder" (weight just 5 lbs) to my [[insertion]] sinister [[/insertion]] side [[strikethrough]] same [[/strikethrough]] & at my right, pendant my "pocket Sextant" & Maine (opera) glass - in my coat - pockets Bottle of [[strikethrough]] Merc [[/strikethrough]] Mercury Artificial Horizon, Azimuth Compass my compass [[?]] in my hands, I bid farewell to the little Aft Cabin - & to Tuk-oo-li-too who was in it [[strikethrough]] has [[/strikethrough]] & hastened up on deck. On looking over the larboard side of the vessel, I was surprised to find that [[underlined]] 2 sledges [[/underlined]] & [[underlined]] 2 [[strikethrough]] team [[/strikethrough]] dog [[/underlined]] - teams were ready! A few moments sufficed to acquaint me with the position of affairs. Ebierbing who was to accompany me to the head of Frobisher Bay if it were possible to get there & back, had mentioned to me to ask Capt. B. in my letter if [[strikethrough]] we could [[/strikethrough]] he could possibly spare all of his (E's) dogs. [[strikethrough]] I had [[/strikethrough]] I wrote for only 2 - not feeling to solicit any greater favor, for I knew well Capt. B. needed all. On the reception of the letter, I did not mention to Ebierbing that we [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] were to have only two - therefore he took it for granted we were to have all - so on the arrival of Quejesse & Charley with their teams he took all of his [[strikethrough]] [[back up?]] [[/strikethrough]] & attachched them to his Kum-mi-tu which he had in readiness with all our "traps". Of course, the extra sledge & extra dogs were at once dispensed with, taking only the 2 dogs promised me by Capt. B. & attaching them to the Se Ko-Se lar sledge. Tho' a disappointment to Ebierbing, yet he (on the explanation) made the best of it

working cheerfully in the transfer of freight on his sledge to the other.
While this was being done, I returned to the Cabin telling the Stewart to write to Capt. by the Innuits Que-jes-se & Koo [[?]] ne-young (Charley) (who returned this PM to Ogbien-[[strikethrough]] sien [[/strikethrough]] bien-see-o-ping) of the time of my starting & also returning my thanks for his favors & furthermore of my disappointment in not writing him.
Casting my eyes from main Cabin to Capt. B's & mine, another surprise awaited me: There was Tuk-oo-li-too [[underlined]] bathed in tears at my departure! [[/underlined]]

Did I think I was so well - so affectionately thought of by my Innuit friend - I may say my [[underlined]] Innuit child [[/underlined]] (for as I have said Ebierbing & Tukoolitoo seem as my children) That she should weep on my [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] expected departure for [[strikethrough]] oly [[/strikethrough]] only two weeks? It was indeed a surprise to me & a great one. I cannot [[insertion]] help [[/insertion]] here stopping to say that in my preparations for this trip, Tuk-oo-li-too [[strikethrough]] has been of [[/strikethrough]] was of great assistance doing a great deal & doing it well. My clothing [[strikethrough]] will [[/strikethrough]] was put in order - every rent [[strikethrough]] or [[/strikethrough]] & thread-bare place mended - packages of this & that neatly & strongly done up. I had an awning for [[strikethrough]] my los [[/strikethrough]] my Boat (the one lost). This with her own hands she made into a Cone-like tent (Tupik) for my use in making journies away from the vessel. I wished a Water [[strikethrough]] proof [[/strikethrough]] proof covering for my Books (Astronomical Books) & portfolio. She took the water proof over-alls (a part of the outfit of Water proof (Seal Skin) dress presented [[insertion]] last [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] summer [[/insertion]] by the Governor of Holsteinburg District Greenland (Gov. Elbing) & made a capital Envelope. She also made me a water proof mitten to made the remaining one of the pair given me by "Sampson" (Koo-cherarchoo) when up there. It will be recollected I lost one of said mittens [[strikethrough]] at the [[/strikethrough]] near the "Half way Spring" on returning here at the time of visiting Frobisher
