VIII-10 Reach E end of Nou-yin & commence crossing Channel ^[[(Island Nou-yarr & Urng-n-toon which runs Westerly and is between. H. N.Y. Apr. 9/64)]]
VIII-35 Stop at [[underlined]] 5th Place of Encampment [[/underlined]] the tide & wind staying further progress.
We passed a time that tried the powers of our craft as well as our own souls in the passage made this P.M. ^[[(from Toong-wine)]] The wind freshened up to a strong breeze about a Modt gale shortly after starting.
For nearly one hour were we in "Suds". Every few minutes a "White Cap" was sent with all its aqueous matter into our boat wetting us & all. Keeping Tunukdelin almost constantly bailing. Koo-per-neu-ung took his noo-loo-an-a under the folds of his oil jacket to keep her from the overleaping waters.
The sail cord was not made fast held fast kept in the hands of some of the lady crew ready at any moment for the Word let go! This in anticipation of a gust that might otherwise overturn the Boat. But God rules the winds & saves. He it is that brought us here safely.
A light shower of rain in crossing. The Glorious rainbow - its contrast with the dark moss covered rock mountains. Its continuance during most of P.M.
To-night looking with spy over to the snow mountains of Kin-gaite I saw what I at 1st thought to be the fires of a Volcano. I called Koo-jes-se & Koo-per-neu-ung - they looked - In the end concluded it to be from the reflected light of the moon on the snow just descending. The light [[underlined]] red [[/underlined]] & the form like the tail of a Comet.
