Never was there better opportunities for good Obs. providing I had good instruments. The Artificial Horizon plays mischief with all my work. In about 2 minutes it moved from some cause so that the 3d ob. for altitude of the Sun was 3° increase! near Meridian Sun! Other observations show its (the A.H.) [[underlined]] inconstancy. [[/underlined]]
How can a rate be reduced for a Chro. with such a Horizon! The Mean however of the Obs. will approximate (& that is all) to the fact. A splendid Sun & Calm are this day. How I am blessed. To-morrow I hope to be off, (even if Koo-jes-se & party are not back) looking here & there & taking notes up the Country. I can [[underlined]] man [[/underlined]] a boat with the [[underlined]] Innuit ladies [[/underlined]] here, if I can do no better!
