Leaving the lady crew in the Boat I & Kood-loo commenced tramping. He one way, for sighting deer & I another, for Discovery.
I made my course up the river N.W. (true). Having made 1/2 mile the river made a turn I found more Northerly but this continued but for a little distance. As I walked along fired with the prospect before at last came to a skull, of what I knew not so I gathered it up with 2 or 3 pieces of bone that were along side of it & carried all along with me [[?purposing]] to carry it back to ascertain of the natives what animal it belonged.
Here in this tramp I am again reminded of it being one of plenty. Every few steps I now take are signs of the large numbers of rein-deer here. A few moments ago a large flock of partridges flew up from the grass & passed a little ahead of me.

[[/underlined]] At my left [[underlined]] that ridge of White across [[/underlined]] the river wh. must attract the notice of every one who visits this point - & behind it the unbroken front of a line of Mts extending
