"The Prize Contest".
W. Atlee Burpee Co.
Philadelphia.

Gentlemen:

On one of the first seeding days I was standing on the cement driveway talking to a friend. In my hand I had several packages of Burpee seeds, one of which was open and during the conversation it accidently dropped from my hand to the cement. My friend, in a laughing way, said, "that is a poor place to cast your seeds. They certainly will not grow on cement." I replied that I was not worried as they were Burpee sees and they would grow anywhere.

Nothing more was said, but the seeds, which were petunias, had rolled into the cracks and crevices of the cement and they grew.
