56											Jan 09 1906	Lowered south end of axis by 1 rev of screws. Moved S end to west by same amount. While examining instrument, winding wheel was observed to be displaced, & on attempting to find difficulty, the ratchet wheel was thrust clean of jawl. No weight fell breaking the winding chain. The original difficulty was that the key of the ratchet wheel had become loose permitting the shaft to shift longitudinally.
