8.20 A.M. left ship on N. N. E. (true) Course, 6 miles, then when 1/4 mile from land, struck the lost man's tracks at h 10 . m 10 A. M. 
Then, followed tracks for a distance of 21 miles, in a tortuous form, towards the Sea; and, finally by circuitous routes to where the body was found, 12 miles mere distant.
Then, another 12 miles back to the ship.
Total distance traversed 51 miles. Therm. 59 [[degree symbol]] below Freez. point.
The distance traversed by Brown must have been 54 miles.

Hall has used '" ' marks in his logs to iterate, however, I believe that the Do D Do used elsewhere in his journals are also used for iteration of text, I have seen others transcribe the latter as ' " ' so this is how I transcribed this page, not sure, if anyone has thoughts or clarification from the institute?
