Thomas
Letter of Sept 9/56 I think it will be done mainly as you suggest $40,000 given for the vessel &c delivery to the Navy Yard.

" [[ditto for: Thomas]] Sept 12/1856 I therefore venture to suggest that you may by your advice & your suggestions urge on the repairs with the rapidity which you may properly indicate as desirable.

" [[ditto for: Thomas]] Sept 25/1856 that no undue importance should be given to it (the presentation of R to Brit Gov) but that it should be performed unostentatiously & as one of those intranational [[?conetisus]] to be expected from one great nation toward another.
