SIZE OF COLLECTIONS

There have been added to the Museum collections during the past fiscal year 22,272 specimens; and there are now in the entire collection 137,173 catalogue entries--an increase during the year of 9,808.

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL ANTHROPOLOGY

The routine of the department was carried on in the usual way.

The collections were augmented by the accession of skulls and bones from Ellesmere Island, Behring Strait; Soak Hides, Three Mile Harbor, Long Island; Sacramento, California; Captiva Island, Florida; Missouri and Arkansas; and Santa Barbara, in addition to the much noted finds of 1923.

The curator's report on the last named finds, comprising the craniology, is in print now under the title "The Skeletal Remains from Santa Barbara, California. I. Craniology." He has also published a paper, entitled "Declination of the pars basilaris in normal and in artificially deformed skulls," which appeared as No. 27 in the "Miscellaneous" collection of our Museum.

In July, 1924, the curator, with a number of other scientists, was present at a dinner party which had for its purpose the presentation of the "White Indians" from Darien, Panama, and in August attended the Toronto meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science and there reported on the Santa Barbara skeletal remains.

By way of exchange for our publications, the departmental library came into possession of two Italian periodicals on Physical Anthropology, (1) a complete set of Atti della Società Romana di Antropologia, 1894-1911, continued then as the Revista di Antropologia, and continued to date, and (2) the Archivio per l'Antropologia e la Etnologia (Florence), v. 37-51, covering the years 1907-1921.

Among the visitors to this department were Dr. Franz Kühn, Professor of Geography in the Universidad Nacionál del Litoral, Paraná, Argentine; and Dr. J. Zollschan, of Karlsbad, Czechoslovakia.
