There appears to be a specialized notation for the amounts in each Rx. mandc: yes these are old apothecary symbols. The symbol of dram or drachm looks like a "3." The symbol for ounce looks like a 3 with a curlicue on top. Quantities are written in lower case Roman numerals, sometimes using a j for an i. "ijps" means two and one-half. "gtts means drops.
