39.) 6 July 1929. A dull cold day, with NW wind. Annual ascent of Lugnaquillia, Co. WI. with "A.S.U." Except a few ichneumon & braconid taken after tea by sweeping at Ballineddin by OMahony & myself, no hymenoptera were seen during the day except a single [[female symbol]] [[underlined]] Myrmica scabrinodis [[/underlined]] taken by OMahony at the land of of North Prison at ca. 2,800 feet under a stone. This [[female symbol]] I think was one carried up during a "flight" the previous year which had hibernated there during the winter; there was no sign of a nest or workers. In April 1931, when I saw Dr. Perkins at newton Abbot he said a [[male symbol]] & 2 [[2 female symbols]] of this species might be [[underlined]] vittata, cameroni [[/underlined]] var, or a new species! A.W.S. Some of this material did not hatch till 1931 when 4 or 5 emerged : one of these with saw partly exposed was stated by Dr. Perkins to [[underlined]] be cameroni [[/underlined]] [[insertion]] Benson agrees! 1934 [[/insertion]] but a dark var.
