Threatening weather early this morning - Sun came out about 8.30 and it is now pleasant - moderate winds - few clouds in the sky - Snowing & Blowing @ 10 AM - Fierce winds - stopped snowing 3 P.M. -
Both Collieries worked 9 hours - 

Everything running smooth today -

The new Stove Jig West side, ("Christ") that was put in Vulcan breaker on Friday & Saturday, was started up this morning and it is working satisfactory -

Ordered 1600 feet 1 5/8" diameter cast steel, hemp center hoisting rope  from "Roeblings" for Vulcan -

James Muir called this P.M.

   Received a sheet iron sheers and a punch at BMtn today, from Chas. G. Eckstein & Co., 45 Liberty st. N.Y.

Both Collieries worked 9 hours -

   Mr. Jones went through "Buck Mountain" mines to day - Has put a night shift on there, to handle the rock at night - Are now hoisting about 20 cars per day of rock, and it will pay us to have men to unload it etc at night, as we will then get about 20 cars of coal per day more -- At Vulcan we are saving about $200. per month, (month of 17 days) by handling the rock at night --

   Cut the middle split of the "Mammoth" vein at "Buck Mountain" today; 70' in from the bottom split of same vein - Vein is 2'-9" thick - coal good - #4 3rd West Tunnel - Up in the #2 Tunnel (2nd West) this vein is also 70 feet in from the  bottom split, and the vein is not as thick, and the coal is very very poor --
