[[left-hand page]] [[preprinted]] January, WEDNESDAY, 20. 1897[[/preprinted]] Temperature +6[[degree symbol]] and Barometer 28.72 @ 7 AM " [[ditto for: Temperature]] +10[[degree symbol]] " " [[dittos for: and Barometer]] 28.70 at 7 3/a " [[ditto for: Temperature]] +16[[degree symbol]] " " [[dittos for: and Barometer]] 28.50 @ 6 PM Pleasant this morning - commenced snowing about noon, and the fierce winds are blowing here and there - Very disagreeable - Vulcan Colliery worked only 7 hours - Had more than sufficient coal in breaker to load their cars, and they run through 3 gms condemned' Nut afterwards BMtn Colliery worked 9 hours - An eccentric on the engine running the "Nut 'Christ' Jig West side, broke this afternoon at B Mtn Colliery - Took the eccentric off the Stove Coal jig, same side, and put in on the 'Nut, and the "Stove" Jig was idle all afternoon - Will order new one tomorrow morning - Steam has been low at Vulcan Colliery during the last few days - and they are falling a little behind of their large hoists - B Mtn is picking up wonderfully well - Hoisted 210 coal and 7 Rock this forenoon - Today is the last day the collieries will work this week, as the "L.V." will not run cars until next week - Lewis Grant, the contractor died today at Pottsville.
