Appears to be getting colder this evening - moderate winds - Both Collieries are idle - R.R. Co not running cars - Very few men working at either Colliery - Still putting in the heater pipes [[strikethrough]] at [[/strikethrough]] in Vulcan Breaker - Have men working at 3rd Lift New Bottom. Are pushing this job - Mr. Daniel Thomas was here early this morning and interviewed Mr. Jones - Mr. O.C. Lewis called this PM. We are endeavoring to get the ^[[insertion]] pay [[/insertion]] rolls finished by Saturday, so that we can pay on the 10th ultimo - Only part of the books are in - The pockets of Buck Mountain Breaker were strengthened last week by our Carpenters - on both sides - Forest fires are raging all around the mountains - [[End Page]] [[Start Page]] [[preprinted]] April, THURSDAY, 1. 1897. Best days hoist ever made. i.e for the two Collieries 850. - A car of shingles came in to-day here at at New Boston - After we repair our old shop, they will be unloaded - The idea is to buy building material in car lots, as we can buy at a greatly reduced figure this way, than by buying piecemeal - Store the material in the shop, and deliver them to either ville by our own teams - We have another car of batting, Y.P. Flooring, W.P. & Y.P. boards, coming - Everything running smoothly -
