"For Prize Contest"

I first learned of "Burpee's Seeds while visiting a relative in Kansas.  They had such beautiful flowers and fine vegetables, I wanted some like them so they gave me a Burpee Catalogue.  I took it home and made my garden plans on paper, as at that time we were living in an apartment.
In the Spring we bought a house and 10 lots and I had my garden.
That first garden, I shall never forget.  I thought I followed instructions carefully, but my rows were crooked, - I couldn't beets carrots etc from weeds and pulled them all up.  But I learned, and now my garden is a genuine pleasure and profit to me.
The best results I had this year was from my patch of peas.
I had the plow man lay off (as for potatoes) rows about 8in deep and rows 6in apart.  Planted Burpee's Best Extra Early Peas, covering lightly, filling in trenches as they grew.  And as they grew they vined together making the ground in the rows moist and shady.
As a rule you can make one picking of
