Dear Mr. Heye:

Inclosed is payment for the publication on the death image ceremony, plus some for postage. I deeply appreciate these publications & should like to ask if you have any more of a similar nature - that is dealing with tribes of the extreme southwestern U.S. or Lower California?

I wish Mr. Davis could have reported so admirably on more of the Southern California ceremonials. So much lore is now lost forever.

Regarding cave specimens of rabbit sticks.- I have only two. One of these is not first class as the cave was not completely dry & the makana is somewhat weathered. Their occurence has been about 1:50 (based on our experience) compared to complete ollas. That is, we've found around 100 complete pottery cache specimens to the 2 throwing sticks. Since neither my father nor I can ever again partake in the rigorous activity of searching the boulder piles; I'd have little hope of replacing these.

However, my friend Eugenio, an old southern Diegueno knows the method & material of their manufacture. I'd be happy to attempt to have him make one for you if other than an ancient one would fulfill your needs. (But I  presume you are already so supplied.) Meanwhile, should I chance upon the opportunity of procuring another ancient one I'll surely get it for you.
