Prescott speaks of the ridgid enforcement of protective laws for the [[strikethrough]] into [[/strikethrough]] wild huanacos & vicunyas by the Incas who hunted them annually for their wool & meat. They were surrounded by some 5,000 to 6,000 men in a gigantic drive who used spears & lances. Some of the males were killed for the meat, especially the deer but the vicunyas & huanacos were only captured, sheared & turned loose again.
