a sort of social parade at the Plaza Victoria.  This takes place on one side of the square only & consists chiefly of the young men & women in trios or [[strikethrough]][[?]] [[/strikethrough]] quintettes. It is a dress parade in which much variety is displayed.  The people of Valparaiso have a thoroly European appearance, the blond blue eyed type predominating.  Indian blood or negro is certainly very rare here as far as the upper class are concerned.  The people show a strong national or rather military spirit.  In the plaza at the wharf is a large statue & monument of Capt. Pratt & other heroes of the recent Peruvian war.  There is also a street named for Pratt & a warship in the harbor bearing his name.  Other naval heroes so honored are Cochrane.  Pratt showed undoubted Personal bravery but
