The poverty of species is amazing.  Not a hummer or tanager was seen.  Day clear & warm with [[strikethrough]] great [[/strikethrough]] such reflection of the sun on the white pavements.

[[circled]] 2 [[/circled]] Spent the morning in the quiet Parque Cousinya.  It is a really beautiful park of large size with a great variety of pines, vales pippa trees, eucalyptus, bamboo & flowers.  Beneath the trees is a good growth of lawn carefully [[strikethrough]] ct [[/strikethrough]] cut & watered.  Even in this large wood & lake country birds were few.  In the afternoon I went to another large park, the Botanical Garden & Museo National.  The place was labelled Quinta Normal.  Many of the trees were very old and of large size.  Giant Sycamores, oaks, maples, pines, elms & magnolias abounded.  The Museum was closed for 2 months.  The park was almost as large as the Cousinya.  I learned afterwards that the park attendants had allowed
