4000,000 as sawn lumber 1 1/4 inch, 3 inch plank scantling &c
Ryan, Duff & Cos Mill. Engine &c of steamer Sta Clara - 2 Engines of 150 horse each at Eureka. Has 4 gangs of saws, double lath machine, slab cutter, edger & shingle machine. Run only one engine as yet 40 to 50 saws - can run 75. Went into operation in May 1853.
White's Mill. also at Eureka. 1 saw
May, Flanders & Co. 2 single saws 2 edgers. (not yet at work)
Chesapeake Mill. Kingsbury & Co. 60 horsepower engine 1 gang & 1 edger.
Say 200 men employed as loggers, hewers &c in the 4 mills.
Kinds of lumber used - yellow fir or "Oregon pine - red spruce - Redwood
Total power of all the mills estimated at 2,000,000 feet per month.
