The morning fair & the weather pleasant Reported that the Rebs are evacuating Richmond & going to Columbia SC & that a portion of the colored troops of the Dept are ordered to Charleston to hold the place. All quiet around the tents my Health good & wounds improving Afternoon Six hundred freedmen reported to have arrived at the place from parts not known

A Beautiful morning the weather pleasant in Bad Health spent the Day in Bed in the Afternoon a Boat came in from Charleston bringing quite a number of Freedmen a portion of them stopped here the remainder were carried to the Head. They reported our Regiment doing Provost Duty in Charleston SC. at Noon a salute fired at the Head in honor of the Birthday of Washington
