Raining hard & continued to rain all day long. quite a stir among the cooks about Rations that were disposed of wrongfully the matter thouroughly investigated by the Steward & Doctor & the mystery ferreted out several men put in the guard House for absence at Roll Call Health good & wounds improving

Still raining hard Doctor Babbitt of the Regt arrived here & reported the Regt is on its way to Newbern N C & 40 mile beyond Charleston when he left it he reported the men generally well & living in high style on the Country as they passed along. Taken a walk to town. Reported that Charlottville Ga is taken & the Rebel General Early taken prisoner
