experiments have been made and the two Exhibits accompanying this report show the best results so far obtained. The method consists in stamping the object with any ink used with rubber types, and with a camels hair brush dusting fine bronze powder over the letters; the glycerine adheres to the bronze so that when quite dry the marks are not effacable except in the case of rough usage. Experiments were made some time ago to secure a similar result with white or nearly white powders, but the absorbent power of the whiting, zinc white or plaster used, took away the adhesive effect of the liquid & when all was dry the inscription was easily rubbed off. The same articles when mixed with glycerine, and used as a body color were found very soon to clog the interspaces of the type and gave a blurred impression.
