My dear Professor Baird;
  For the month of May and June 1885, the report of the Curator of the Dep't. of Ethnology is as follows.
The force under my direction consisted of Miss Latham, Messrs. Singleton, Bangert, Sweeny,and Clayton. Miss Latham has been engaged in [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] copying the Duplicate Series of Ethnological Catalogues, attending to my correspondence, and the literary part of my work on the Balcony.
Dr. Singleton has been engaged on the subject of labels for the Dept. of Ethnology. Before he came this work was very much neglected on acc't. of the manual labor necessary to arrange the collections and also in getting the New Orleans Exhibit ready. He has rendered efficient services
