States there is a prisoner confined in Caswell Co. jail undergoing imprisonment under a sentence of "hard labor", for stealing a mule. He has 4 months to serve & his health is very bad, & is requesting to apply to the Military to place him in such a position that he can make something as he has a lage family.

Returns communication with evidence required in letter dated War Dept June 6, in written [[name erased]] N.P. Drew, Agent in charge of Claims Div. in which he states the 2nd Auditor reports the claim of Joseph Turner, (dec'd) late pvt. Co F 35. U.S.C.F. suspended for evidence, that the claimant & mother of deceased lived & are living together, and were & are considered as man & wife whether the custody & support of deceased devolved upon claimant to be made in form of joint affidavit by witnesses competent. Also an Application for same bounty by mother required.
