Jan. 26 Friday

Went out in the country this morning to get some things for a library dinner. On the high bank by John Hacketts grove a number of English Sparrows were feeding. As I passed they flew over into Voll's yard. Among them was a Goldfinch which flew up on a branch a few feet away. It was not afraid at all. I was quite surprised

as most of our birds are so wild. on my way back I saw a Red-headed Woodpecker in the grove on the sunny south side of a tree. He went up a few inches at a time and got quite a number of eggs and larvae.
