Dear Sir,-

We beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 3rd inst. and regret to say that it would not answer our purpose, or be beneficial to our business, if we followed your suggestion and placed an advertisement in your valued paper at present.

This is true because our Mr. Jacques Seligmann goes back to Europe this coming Monday, and we are sending back to our Paris house all the valuable works of art which are still here and were sent over for his stay in the country.

Should therefore an advertisement be placed in your valued paper, and should it induce patrons of works of art to call at our galleries, we would be placed in a most embarrassing position.

May we suggest that you give us a schedule of your ^[[space]] prices, so that at some future time, and when it would be to our mutual advantage, we could make use of your suggestion.

Pray believe us,

Very truly yours,
