The Honorable Byron Newton,

Custom House,
New York City.

Dear Sir:-

I am expecting my father, head of the firm JACQUES SELIGMANN & CO., Inc., at the above address, on the Cedric sailing from Liverpool. This steamship is due on the 16th or 17th of January.

My father has undergone last year a very serious operation and I would be most thankful to you to grant me the authorization of meeting him at the pier.

Pray believe me,

Yours sincerely,

Germain Seligmann

P.S. During the war I have been detached as liaison officer to the First Division U.S.A. and have been awarded the Distinguished Service Medal.
