Columbia University in the City of New York New York 27, N.Y. Office of the President Dear Mr. Parkinson: It is my conviction that through education -- broad, human, objective education -- we can achieve the mutual understanding among all nations and races that is necessary foundation for an enduring peace. That is why I urge support of the United Negro College Fund. Through the Fund, many young Americans are given a chance they otherwise might never have had to continue their education -- to become the doctors, teachers, nurses, social workers so desperately needed today. The Fund enables thirty-two private colleges and universities to provide more scholarship aid to deserving students, buy books for libraries, pay teaching salaries. We can all help these young Americans by giving generously to the United Negro College Fund campaign in our city. Sincerely, Dwight D. Eisenhower Mr. Thomas I Parkinson Chairman, United Negro College Fund 22 East Fifty-Fourth Street New York 22, New York abroad in the land An Address by John D.
