HAMPTON INSTITUTE.

All back school bills must be paid up before re-entering the school in October.

Scholarship Letters

The estimated cost of instructing each student, either in day or night school, for one year, is seventy dollars, as has been said. Owing to the inability of students to provide this amount it is remitted to them, and the friends of the colored race are solicited to provide a scholarship of seventy dollars for each pupil. Any student may be dropped from the school who shall be considered unworthy of the scholarship aid which he may need to secure his education. Students are expected to write letters of acknowledgement and thanks to their benefactors. The tuition, or scholarship donation, is for the salaries of teachers or cost of education; it has nothing to do with board-bills. State students have free tuition, but not free board, and are expected to pay as others, in cash and labor, ten dollars per month for board.

School for Bible Study

The Pastor's Class was started in October, 1884, to aid the colored pastors in the vicinity of Hampton and other young men fitting for the ministry who may desire instruction in Biblical studies.

It is undenominational, its instructors representing four denominations.

The students of this department may earn their board and lodging as do other members of the school.

No charge is made for tuition. The classes are held only four days in a week, Monday and Saturday being free to those who have churches at a distance from the school, so that they may attend to them while they pursue their studies.

Students of this class may obtain room and board at Hampton and attend the Pastor's classes in the afternoon, or any of the regular clases in the academic department.

The regular course of studies covers three years, but pastors may avail themselves of any part of it.
