The Stowe Chapter of the Y.W.C.A.

The Young Women's Christian Association at Stowe is affiliated with the world-wide Student Christian Movement. It operates in the following areas: Christian fellowship, leadership, and racial understanding.

This year in addition to its regular program the group participated in interracial programs at Washington University and at various Y's throughout the city.

The "Little Convention" at the downtown Y.M.C.A. was attended by the following delegation of officers: Nancy Roberts, President; Doris Nelson, Vice-President; and Clara Etta Tompkins, Corresponding Secretary.

The Camera Club

The Camera Club was delighted with the return of its regular sponsor, Captain Victor Reef who had been on military leave with the Tuskegee Institute Air Base in Alabama. Captain Reef brought new vigor to the club.

Aside from its routine schedule the Camera Club finds time for outings and assistance to the Yearbook Staff. Although spring showers brought the year's outing to a close, the members had already secured several interesting shots against the splendid settings of buildings at Forest Park.

The Glee Club

Through music of various lands the Glee Club is able to contact the peoples of other lands and therefore help in setting the basis for world peace. They execute the freedom of expression through song.

The Glee Club under the direction of Mr. Wirt D. Walton learns through song to appreciate the sorrows and joys of other peoples in a way that only musicians can.
The Glee Club furnishes music for Vespers and Commencement and gives various other programs. It sponsored Miss Lucy Ann Berry in a recital in the Stowe Auditorium this spring.

The Student Ensemble

This group was originally organized as the music committee of the Dean's Organization. It grew into a group of music lovers including many male students. We felt that this organization would give an opportunity for the male students to use their musical talents. They sang several times during the fall semester and also during the early spring semester, but because the call of Uncle Sam beckoned our male members either to the armed forces or to other government work we have temporarily become inactive. Nevertheless some of the remaining members still assist with the music of the dean's meeting.
