Dr. F.D. Patterson, President
Tuskegee Institute
Tuskegee Institute, Alabama

My dear Dr. Patterson:

I know you have received many, many letters from interested persons since the announcement of your intended resignation from Tuskegee Institute. Yet, I find myself wanting to say something in this regard.

I have often compared Tuskegee's history with Alcorn's (or should I say contrasted?). Each of the three presidents of Tuskegee has been extremely dynamic and in my way of thinking--just what was needed for the particular era in which he served. This is my way of saying to you how well I think you have served Tuskegee. Although my employ directly under you was very short, indeed(you probably don't even remember--it was one month in 1945 when your most efficient and loyal secretary was on vacation), I did have the opportunity to study and learn much from you, for which I am grateful.

I wish you much success (and peace of mind) in your new undertaking. I am certain that it will be free of the many troubles that hound a college president. I, too, am leaving for New York in June, where I plan to be closer to my aging and ailing father, as well as to pick up some night courses during the coming year in the field of Business Administration with emphasis on Personnel Management and Industrial Relations.

You have my fervent prayers for your continued good health and success.

Very truly yours,
