PURCHASE, NEW YORK

March 24, 1953

My dear Dr. Patterson:

The good wishes of all your friends of Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart come with this note. We are so glad for the high and unsought honor which has come to you. Today, as never before, America needs citizens to work with vision and dedication, and a sense of the greatness and also of the urgency of the great cause of Liberty which they serve. We can well appreciate how much labor your position as director of the Phelps-Stokes Fund will add to an already full and crowded program that makes your generous service all the more commendable.

With congratulations, and hoping that we shall have the pleasure of welcoming you soon at Manhattanville, I am

Very sincerely yours,
