Patterson President Tuskegee Institute Tuskegee, Alabama Dear Dr. Patterson: It was certainly a shock to learn through the Press that you have decided to retire as President of Tuskegee, the pride of Negro peoples. I shall not breathe a murmur against this decision; instead, the first thought that come into my mind was, "Well done thou good and great servant, thou hath been faithful over Tuskegee and now your reward shall be ruler of many things." I hate to think of you leaving Tuskegee, however, I can appreciate how hard you and Katherine have worked. Your soul must be tired. Certainly my own soul was tired and my body worn to a frazzle when I left Phillis Wheatley Association. You and Mrs. Patterson have my best wishes for every success in your new work and for a happy, healthy long life. Sincerely, [[signature]] Jane E. Hunter JEH:h
