Dr. F.D. Patterson
Tuskegee Institute
Tuskegee, Alabama.

Dear Doctor Patterson:

A few weeks ago I read with great surprise of your resignation as President of Tuskegee Institute.

I am sure that your resignation came as a great shock to the staff and faculty members of that great institution which you have so ably served during your many years as Administrative head; and I feel certain that it has been a source of pleasure and inspiration to those associated with you to have felt the inspiring influence of your personality as President of one of America's leading institutions of higher learning.

Without doubt many friends and admirers throughout the country join me in lamenting your leaving Tuskegee, but view with pride your promotion to the Directorship of the Phelps-Stokes Fund. As Director of the Fund you will not be lost to Negro Education, but be in a position to contribute in a larger measure to it.

While I express my regrets at your leaving our immediate fellowship of College Presidents, I extend my very best wishes to you that you may be granted many more fruitful years in which to fulfill your ideals.

Sincerely yours,
