President F. D. Patterson
Tuskegee Institute
Tuskegee, Alabama

Dear Dr. Patterson:

I have just read in the Tri-State Defender about your resignation. It comes with a real jolt to me, as to so many of your friends and admirers. It is of course unhappy news for Tuskegee, and for many other causes. Here’s wishing you, however, many more years of great usefulness and of satisfaction in the service of humanity.

Let me just say that the privilege of knowing and being associated with men like you is abundant compensation for coming here and living among these pesky Southern nitwits.*

Now that you are to be more or less foot-loose, how about stopping in once in a while and smiling upon Tougaloo? Mrs. Warren joins me in cordial regards and warmest good wishes.

Sincerely,
