it in exchange for [[underline]] publications[[/underline]], it should be kept. It has not yet been sent up. A good Californian collection, presented, as I believe, by Mr. Stevens, also has not yet left the Registrar's office. It embraces about 300 specimens, among them good articles of obsidian.

We, that is, Mr. Upham and myself, were most of the time engaged in the work of mounting specimens of the general collection on wooden blocks covered with tea - colored paper, beginning with the case No. 1. The new method is doubtless a great improvement, as far as the permanency of the work is concerned, and the effect is excellent.

Regarding my publication on prehistoric fishing, I will state that Messrs. Judd and Detweiler are now engaged in inserting into their proper places the electrotypes of the 405 illustrations. They inform me that the work will soon be done.
