The Pan American Union
A FIELD TRIP
On Friday, January 18, we took a field trip to the Pan American Union. Twenty-one countries of the Western Hemisphere belong to this organization. Its purpose is to develope cultural, social, and other inter-relationships.

As we stood out-side of the building our attention was called to the motifs of North and South America so beautifully blended that it looked like a Latin American palace.

We were greeted by a member of the staff who guided us. We were taken to the patio. It has a glass-roof two stories high and in the center is a pink and white fountain designed by Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, which is surrounded by the tropical trees and plants of these countries. There were two very old Macaws in the trees. We were told they lived to be over 200 years old.

We saw the art of the Aztec, Inca and Mayan which adorned the building as we went to the second floor.

We passed through the Hall of Heroes and the Hall of National Flags. We were told that the flags were arranged in alphabetical order. We then went in to the Hall of the Americans. Here concerts are sometimes given by outstanding artists from any of the twenty-one countries. We looked down on the Blue Aztec garden and saw the Secretary-General's home. In the summer open air concerns are given in this beautiful garden.

Returning to the first floor we went into the Library and Travel Division and collected much useful information including the pictures of all flags and coat-of-arms of all the countries of the Union.

When we left we went into the Aztec garden and saw the God of Flowers at the head of the pond. There were no flowers in bloom at this time of year but the pond was filled with beautiful colored fish.

Mr. Robb, the member of the staff who had guided us told us that we are not to forget that we are part of the Pan-American Union.

We had gained much first hand information and we were better able to appreciate the art and culture of the countries of the Pan American Union.

This we recorded as one of the most beautiful as well as interesting places we have visited.

Our Trip to See Quo Vadis
We left school at 10:30 a.m. and reached the Republic Theatre about 11:30 a.m. The picture was in technicolor and it lasted about three hours. We enjoyed the picture very much because it showed how the Romans lived, their home life, social customs, and their religion. The main thing the picture tried to show was the struggle that the Romans who accepted the teachings of Christ had to face. At the end of the picture, when the Christians were being slaughtered in the arena, the people realized that what they were doing was wrong and Christianity became an accepted fact. We thought the best actors were Nero, Marcus and Peter. On the way home we had a good time talking about the picture.

A Wonderful Trip

We went on a trip to High Street. We saw some houses that were being built. We saw some of the materials that are used. Some of us had never seen plaster board, stair casings, plywood, and corner beads before. We saw the men putting in electric sockets. Some rooms were almost finished. They were very pretty. Now one of our classmates lives in the houses. We enjoyed the trip very much. Now we have some of the materials in our room to remind us of our trip.
