The lower bottom land is only 5 to 10 ft. above the Coon river.
The cuts westward along C. M & St. P. Ry were then taken up and numbered consecutively as follows:
[[underline]] This is cut 1 [[/underline]]
The cut in NE. cor. of sec. 33 is about 15 ft deep & is all sand, with an irregular [[ bits?]] of small gravel & soil above, this part above sand being 1-3 ft deep.
   This is [[underline]] cut 2.[[/underline]]
The first cut beyond [[row?]]. It shows yellow loess on ferretto, & this on Kansan drift.
    This is cut 3.
The next cut shows layer of chordate stuff on S side; about [[2?]] ft of a yellow stuff (loess); then 5 or 6 ft of yellow loess with bluish-gray streaks.
This had many fossils & also nodules. It is cut 3 of tomorrow's notes.

Cut farther on shows drift.
Walked back by wagonroad to ^[[John]] Weaver's house. Noticed on the way that loess forms only a little cap, and that drift shows on all the ridges far up the slope.
Had supper at Weaver's and then returned to the hotel, found Prof. Macbride and conferred with him, chiefly on drift.
