The fossils on the S. side seem to be restricted to strip or belt beginning 25 yds W. of section line & running for 35 yds.
Both W. & E. of this there seems to be no fossils.
The fossiliferous belt on N. side is higher (about 18 ft), shorter (opp. W. end) & the whole appears as if the lower part of the slope had been better inhabited by snails.
The slope of ridge is to [[ranch?]].
At 9 o'clock - readings on N. side at the fossilif. part:

Top of band 1121.
Took sample of upper brown loess from S side.
Loose, soft, no fossils.
The loess is heavy yellow, with bluish streaks & mottling, & some roundish nodules (took samples yesterday). It is very fossilferous in upper 1/3 & grades down into heavier non-fossiliferous tuff of same kind, below which is chordate layer & ferretto.
The N. side of E. part is less clear, partly overgrown, and over-washed.
The N. side does not show so distinct a division into 2 parts, the [[sag?]] running out.
