On both sides of 14 nodules - are abundant near top (small.) 

The layer of gray loess on W side is irregular, but over a foot thick in thickest place. It has many iron tubules.

Top of cut 14 - W side 1267 Base - [[he has written a subtraction problem 1267 minus 1239 with an answer of 28

There are low scrub bur oaks on hill above Cut 14.

[[underline]] Cut 15 [[/underline]] is too fresh and not finished, but it seems to be loessy above, & shows drift below.

Loess is scant all along here.

[[underline]] Cut 16 [[/underline]] on E. side (better) and shows only drift.

Cut 17 is also only in drift - E. & W.

Then comes long fill to wagon-road.

Quite a bit of bur oak scrub timber W. & S.
