Dear Cam-

Your most welcome letter came a couple of days ago with its enjoyable news.  Yes, Cam, I plead guilty to the vandalism of the gate!  So many members with incurable symptoms of materialism cried "paint it and save it" pointing at what they called "destruction by rust" unmindful of the beauty of the finger of time that I finally gave way and said to Phil in the presence of Scott that it had better be coated with the ^[[best]] preservation obtainable - possibly by the paint used by D&C if on the metal work of their boats.  Reverence for things worth while enter so little these day into Yon plans that I am getting less and less interested in trying to preserve the old time ideals - they seem no longer the spirit of the place - only ghostly visions of the once predominating thought.
