Dear Colonel Hecker,
[[next section crossed out with two diagonal lines in pencil and the word "omit" written between]]
I returned from Touraine last night and was pleased to find your letter of June 22nd.

Thanks for news given and for your letter to Frank CoyKand[[?]] all about the cut blue stone. I am sorry the work is being kept backward by the Blue Stone Co and disappointed in their business methods. I fancy we will have to join and suffer however as they control the whole business.
