one hundred pounds sterling - contingencies still unadjusted [[pounds]]25 to 30. This poker game has run through nearly one month, so I suppose, I should not mourn over my modest losses. The Yondotega games never approached this one!

This afternoon I bid farewell to this land of surprises and go by N.G.L. S.S. "Bayern" direct to Athens. I had intended having a peep at Ephesus enroute, but time prevents. I am sorry to leave so much behind me, including my one hundred sterling, the finest summer climate I have ever experienced and Oriental art galore. But Athens and the art of the Greeks are before me and they lessen the pangs which I shall feel in an hour when I go on board. After about four days at Athens and two at Corfu, I shall go via Trieste to Vienna and Budapest. The first week in August should land me in Paris. Thence London and home about Sept 1st, depending upon which steamer, of which I shall cable you word as soon as determined.

With all good wishes, yours sincerely, Charles L Freer
