[[Underlined]] Cebus capucinus [[Underlined]], Feb. 5, 1961, I.

p.m. February 3rd. Now keeping the baby alone in a cage in the animal
house, and trying to rear it by hand. (Incidentally, there are no other White-faced Monkeys in the animal house now.)

I think this baby is [[male symbol]]. Eyes open and can see, but probably not very well. Can crawl about, but coordination generally very poor. Can't really stand up on legs yet.

I shall call this baby "Oskar" (Osk, for short).

When we first took Osk from its mother, it uttered lots and lots of BB's and Trlls, all jumbled up, not in any regular order.

The Trlls were mostly S Trll's, but rather loud S Trll's. Changing to [[underlined]] L Trll's [[/underlined]] when Osk actually tried to bite me. These L Trll's were really quite hard and rattling, with extreme [[zig-zag line resembling saw blade or mountain silhouette]] quality

There seems to be no doubt but that Osk's Trill's are definitely hostile already.

The BB Notes were uttered singly, or in series. Series composed of
2, 3, or (very rarely) 4 notes. Presumably series of increasing intensity. The 3-note series are quite reminiscent of the Ab-Type B of Howlers (although all the notes of a single series are usually more or less identical in pitch and loudness). When Osk uttered the BB's right after being taken from its mother, all the BB Notes were really deep barks. Sounded exactly like the BB of adults, but not quite as loud

The BB Notes were uttered with "triangular" MO (as drawn on Oct. 15, 1960, p. 35) & PL. No BT. Some S Trll's were uttered with the mouth open in the same way. Others uttered with mouth opened less widely.

After Osk had been in its new cage by itself about 1/2 hour, it began to settle down a little. Became less vocal. Uttered many fewer Trll's; but continued BB's more or less as before. This would suggest that its
