[[underlined]] Cebus capucinus [[/underlined]], Aug. 18, 1961, II

[[lines running vertically down the left margin]]

ened a little on the up movements, but never completely; and the hind legs are hardly straightened at all, even during the most extreme up movements. The hands never leave the ground on the up movements. The whole thing very elastic looking. Sometimes quite regular.

Another movement is SS. Quite regular. Sometimes combined with bouncing up and down; sometimes independent.

This crouching and bouncing and SS is accompanied by lots of notes. Lots of S Trll's (quite loud; but not rattling like the L Trll's); and B Notes. These B's are a little difficult to decipher. More or less MGB. Possibly one or two tending to WB. Quite regular. Some quite sharp. Some almost [[image - short line shaped in a long, drawn-out v]]

These S Trll's and B's seem to be jumbled together in a quite random order.

Osk also performs quite a number of Lsh's from time to time during this performance. Usually combined with the B Notes. Occassionally combined with an S Trll. Sometimes silent? These Lsh's may occur during either bouncing and/or SS.

When I approach Osk a second time, 7:40, I do so more abruptly. Obviously frighten him a little more strongly. He had been playing unconcernedly in his cage. Then when he sees me coming, he utters 1 AlB (quite like adults), dashes to a corner of his cage, and crouches as before. At first quite silent in crouch. [[underlined]] MO [[/underlined]], but no bouncing or SS. Then begins to relax a little. Begins to utter S Trll's, 1 L Trll, and do a little bouncing. Retains MO between notes. This MO a little different from the earlier pattern. Corners of mouth drawn back in a slight trace of BT.

It is obvious, I think, that silent MO and silent BT intergrade almost or absolutely completely.
