7. What material  from your department has been transmitted to students and investigators outside of the Museum during the year, and in connection with what special investigation was the material needed? It should be stated in each case whether or not the material has been returned to the Museum.


J. D. McGuire., of Elliott City, Md., under orders from headquarters, received about two hundred (200) pipes from my department, transferring them to Professor Mason's department for convenience of drawing, figuring and describing them for his paper on "Pipes," which is being prepared by him under arrangement with headquarters.   They were drawn, and have been returned. 

The Eskimo objects (lamps and bone instruments) mentioned in my last annual report as loaned to Professor Mason and Mr. Hough, have not been returned.
