was instructed to go to Norfolk, Va. to examine some specimens of blackfish which had been stranded near Virginia Beach.  Two specimens were found near Dam Neck Mills station, from one of which the curator extracted the skeleton for shipment to the Museum.  On the same day the keeper of L.S.S. at Truro, Mass. was requested to rough out the skeleton of a fin-back whale, which he reported stranded in [[strikethrough]] that vicinity [[/strikethrough]] the neighborhood - [[strikethrough]] nothing [[/strikethrough]] no news  has [[strikethrough]] since [[/strikethrough]] been received regarding this specimen.

A collection of skins valued at $102 was shipped on the 10th inst. to Mr. H.A. Ward of Rochester, [[strikethrough]] in p as payment in part of a debt previously contracted [[/strikethrough]] being part of a series [[strikethrough]] of [[/strikethrough]] agreed to be given out in exchange for the group of orangs now in the Museum.
