The changes which have taken place within this brief period, are mostly incident upon the re-organization of the Museum.  In 1881 the [[strikethrough]] entire collections were [[/strikethrough]] mammalia were placed uder a separate curator and ^[[during the next year]] the entire collection of skins was removed from the Smithsonian building to the new structure now occupied.  Later the skeletons were also removed and placed in an adjacent hall. In 1882 ^[[also]] the force of taxidermists was increased and steps were immediately taken to renovate the entire collections of [[strikethrough]] skins, [[/strikethrough]] mounted skins, many of which showed only too plainly the signs of age.  This work [[strikethrough]] has been [[/strikethrough]] was interrupted [[strikethrough]] by [[/strikethrough]] very recently by the necessity of diverting the work of the taxidermists toward the preparations of a series of specimens of mammalia for the New Orleans Exhibition.  These specimens will ultimately come into the collection, however, so that the delay is only temporary.
