has prepared for publication a description of a new species on simple-horned deer from Central America, [[underline]]Cariacus clavatus[[/underline]], a number of specimens of which were detected in the Museum collections.   He has also prepared for publication an account of the collection of mammals made by Mr. Chas. H. Townsend in Honduras, and by Dr. Birt in Nicaragua. The former collection contained an undescribed subspecies of [[underline]]Capromys[[/underline]], [[underline]]C. Brachyurus thoracatue[[/underline]], from Little Swan Island.

The Curator furnished a greater or less amount of technical information on a variety of subjects to a considerable number of correspondents of the Museum. He corresponded with A.H Cocks, Esq., of Thames Bank, England, and Mr. E. Pierce of New Bedford, regarding a harpoon of American manufacture taken from a whale captured on the coast of Finmarken.   To Mr. C. L. Richardson of the Soldier Home, Kansas, he communicated such facts as
